A major loss solidified Darin Moon’s vision for the future. Growing up on a family farm, combined with losing his otherwise healthy father at a young age, the seeds of this company were planted.
“With my father’s passing, I began to wonder if the food we eat is as healthy as it can be,” Darin recalled. “Could we make it more nutritious? Can we find a way for healthier crops, healthier food and less exposure of dangerous chemicals to the environment?”
As the company began to take shape, Darin and his wife Valerie made the determination that no obstacle would be too great to overcome.

“We started in the early 1990s with $10 in our checking account and an idea,” Darin said. “Valerie took on the role of being super mom, because I was traveling so much. Together we vowed that we would try to make this as successful as we possibly could, so we fought through the hard times. We fought through the lean times, and there were plenty of those.”
Their initial business model was simple. Darin and John Kelly spent six days a week on the road, selling a single product manufactured out of the Moon’s home, for crops in California and Mexico.
“It was hard times, and yet looking back it was good times and good memories,” Valerie remarked. In addition to maintaining their household complete with five children, she did company financials, soil tests and whatever else was needed to support Darin’s mission.
“We had one remedy for challenges of manufacturing , inventory, sales and cash flow – hard work,” John said. As Corporate Agronomist, John remains a fixture at Redox, and is as active today as he was 30 years ago.
As growers found success through Redox, Darin and John continued their lives on the road, establishing relationships and building on success stories.
Seedlings were beginning to emerge.

Terrorist attacks that rocked America on September 11, 2001, not only were a tragedy that reverberated nationwide, but there was also economic fallout for many industries, including agriculture. Market uncertainty and economic disruptions needed to be overcome.
Through patience, perseverance and sweat equity, the company survived. Valuable lessons were learned, including securing stronger manufacturing capabilities and a plan was cemented to get more family integrally involved in the business.
“We were determined to succeed, with our love for each other, our kids, and the chance to grow something together,” Valerie said.
Through it all, the roots of success were taking form.
As the years have progressed, the influence of Redox Bio-Nutrients continues to grow. From almond orchards in California’s Central Valley and corn fields in Nebraska to turf grass in British Columbia and rice fields in Japan, thousands of growers now rely on Redox technology for successful, sustainable crop production.
While growth has been recorded by every metric, fundamental principles have not changed.
Integrity, innovation, finding real world scientific solutions and always striving for more continue to be our North Star.
Today, the Redox Headquarters is a quantum leap from the company’s inception more than 30 years ago. Two PhD scientists lead company research. Products are being embraced in more countries, and there’s exciting adoption of our technology in the Midwest.
The company continues to grow in terms of family participation as well. Darin and Valerie’s son Colton serves as company president, while another son Kody is also in upper management.
What began as seeds prayerfully sewn have blossomed, and the future looks still more promising.
In 2025, Redox released patented and proven RDX-N®, which is a revolution in replacing up to 50 percent of synthetic nitrogen. We are the first company to have multiple biostimulant certifications from The Fertilizer Institute. Our infrastructure is also growing, with a major expansion of nearly 22,000 square feet, providing greater research and even better customer service.

“I think there’s a lot of positivity for the future of agriculture,” Colton Moon said. “Can you ride the downs to get to the top? People are looking to get more from their nutrition, improve crop quality, and develop healthier soil, so that they can pass that on to future generations. That’s a real bright spot to look at for Redox, because we can help in all those categories.”
This quest by the Moon family began in modest fashion. They faced obstacles and required incredible risk, labor and commitment. Today, many have benefitted from this unwavering commitment. The seeds have come full circle to produce a flourishing crop, and the best is yet to come.
“I’m more excited today than the day I started the company,” Darin said. “We are just getting started. We are in good hands, and we are helping farmers both economically and environmentally. Our dream has become a reality.”
