FOUNDATIONS OF SUCCESS

by Jared Sannar

Roots are a grower’s first line of defense to minimize stress on their crops. A strong root zone is essential for proper uptake of water and nutrients.

While soil health is always important to the foundation of abundant, premium-quality crops, summer is especially vital. The final push is underway for wine, table and raisin grapes, as young fruit is sizing up, with sugar and color development underway. For orchards, including almonds, pistachios, pecans, walnuts and stone fruit, buds are forming. These crops are not only approaching the finish line for this year’s production, but also starting the very foundation for next year’s buds.

Soil is the common denominator of these vines and orchards. Healthy soil is the catalyst for root growth, younger root development, more effective water movement and uptake, as well as nutrient delivery.

Stronger crops through healthy, more porous soil and proper nutrient and water uptake can also fortify plants against heat stress, which is likely as summer presses on.

With so much on the line, here are some ways growers can help ensure success:

Redox delivers nutrition in an available form that drives root growth and feeds biology in the root zone. A balanced approach is key. It’s important to make sure the plant’s nutritional needs are met today and carbohydrate storage is improved. You don’t want nutrition tied up in the soil. Rather, it should be utilized in the plant within a matter of days or weeks.

Rx Platinum™ is an excellent choice, providing Phosphorus, Potassium, Carbon, Humic and Fulvic Acids to stimulate soil health and ensure nutrient availability.

Mainstay™ Calcium and PeneCal™ provide a great boost for root growth. Roots need soluble Calcium, and these products help open the micropore space in the root zone and deliver strong nutrition to aid the plant growth process.

RootRx™ and OXYCOM® Calcium are also excellent to provide the building blocks that rejuvenate root strength and growth.

H-85™ increases microbial diversity, improves synthetic nitrogen efficiency and is soluble along a broad PH range.

Growers know their vines and orchards like the back of their hand. They understand areas that are on a downward slope. Maintaining soil health in productive areas while proactively addressing areas of need can provide a significant difference to their bottom line.

Much is on the line for growers every year. Challenges are real. Fortunately, there are proven steps and proven products that can get them to the finish line and provide a positive start to the next growing system.
