Plant Chemistry

Phosphorus is the main component of ATP, the energy molecule of the plant. During photosynthesis, phosphorus helps transfer light energy into chemical energy, and promotes energy transfer, such as ATP. The plant available form of phosphorus is phosphate (PO4=).

Soil Chemistry

Phosphate (PO4=) carries a negative charge and is highly reactive. This can lead to undesirable reactions in the soil, reducing availability of phosphate (PO4=) to the plant. Calcium (Ca++) has a net positive charge and creates an undesirable reaction in the soil with phosphate (PO4=), forming calcium-phosphate (CaPO4=), an insoluble molecule. This reaction is not seen because it is happening in the soil, but it is occurring, and the vast majority of phosphorus applied in the soil is “tied-up” with calcium.

Why is phosphate being applied at such high rates? If phosphate is reacting with calcium in the soil, more phosphate has to be applied in order to meet the plant’s phosphorus demands. However, if we can protect the phosphate molecule from reacting in the soil, less phosphate needs to be applied.

Product Chemistry

In order to achieve the desired result of a protected phosphate molecule, phosphate needs to be complexed with soluble carbon. Complexing is the utilization of an organic molecule that carries both a positive and a negative charge. The negative charge of phosphate needs to be reacted with a positively charged soluble carbon. This will protect the phosphate source from reacting in the soil with calcium, or even in the tank.

A synergistic product with Rootex Flowable, is RootRx. RootRx is a botanical extract the promotes root metabolism and enhances root mass. RootRx contains proprietary bio-active carbon compounds that promote antioxidant production within the root system. Antioxidant production reduces the damage of reactive oxygen species (ROS) caused by abiotic stress events. If ROS is left uncheck, ROS will cause structural damage to proteins, cell walls, and other critical plant functions. Applying RootRx will promote antioxidant production, promote abiotic stress defense, and increase the overall quality and quantity of the roots.
