Iron (Fe) is a valuable tool for enhancing turf color, which is why it’s so widely used. But as a micronutrient, it’s needed in small amounts and its effects are often shorter-lived—requiring frequent reapplications. Magnesium (Mg), by contrast, is a macronutrient that plays a central role in building chlorophyll. Because plants require it in larger quantities, Mg provides a stronger, longer lasting foundation for true green color. When magnesium is paired with a reduced input of iron, turf managers see deeper, more sustainable color with fewer repeat applications.
